The Issues with DOGE

While I understand the need to reduce waste in Government, DOGE appears to be part of a Government coupe by Musk and Trump.

  1. Congress is supposed to decide spending with a 3/5 majority in the Senate, not a partisan billionaire
  2. The first thing to go should be the billions given to Elon Musk and others in Big tech on tech used to spy on, rip off and manipulate the general public (xAI/SpaceX/Starlink)
  3. Efficiency is providing services at a lower cost, not gutting and taking over agencies like NASA, NOAA, DOE, EPA, FCC, FTC, FAA, SEC, NLRB, CFPB, FBI, etc.
  4. Threatening federal employees with firing if they do not provide a daily account of what they’re working on to a partisan billionaire that has no business knowing what every branch of Government is doing is illegal and corrupt.
  5. Access to Government systems by a partisan billionaire with a team of inexperienced people that are capable of doing serious harm or accessing data from competitors should be highly restricted. Department managers are still responsible for lost/corrupted data and they would be responsible for any damage he causes (VA, SSA, Treasury, FAA, GSA, etc).
  6. 40% of Federal contracts cancelled by DOGE will have no actual savings (see article)
  7. The brunt of these cost cuts are born by middle class workers, instead of the wealthy, who are continuing to receive historically low tax rates. The top rate should go back to 40% and a billionaire tax rate of 45% should be added before any job cuts are made.
  8. There are billions in federal funds going to Musk and fellow Silicon Valley Mafia members (Theil, Andreesen, Luckey) that should be investigated for corruption.
  9. DOGE impacting the staffing and budget of NASA, FAA, FCC, etc is a major conflict of interest due to Elon Musk’s involvement with SpaceX and Starlink and should be prohibited and investigated for corruption. Many of his former employees have gone on to head Federal agencies that are responsible for regulating his companies and awarding contracts and this is a major conflict.
  10. Reducing staff at the IRS by 22,000 when there are 100,000 employees will result in a significant loss of revenue since many of these employees are conducting audits to ensure accurate tax collection and discourage tax fraud.
  11. This dismantling of important consumer protections and regulatory agencies should be investigated and overturned by the courts.
