Cancel Culture

Since I have had issues with the Government, Big Tech and Social Media, I think I can add some insight as to what is really going on with Cancel culture.

Let me start by saying that there are many people that are constantly in the news that I wish were cancelled due to their behavior, but they seem to get a significant amount of press because of their positional power, or wealth or celebrity status. I often see people are cancelled because of their politics, but what you probably don’t see is the people that get cancelled because they are not part of the party in power, or they are critical of the party in power or of big tech and it has nothing to do with “wrong” behavior. Sometimes it is a gross overreaction to a joke or insult of some kind, that may have been warranted for a variety of reasons.

Politics is very divided and fractured these days and the left and right cancel each other simply by being on the other side, regardless of the reasons. Sometimes, they cancel their own members for being too moderate on a particular issue, especially in this politically charged atmosphere.

Big tech runs social media and may cancel people that complain about issues with big tech (monopolies, AI, copyright infringement, privacy issues) and it has absolutely nothing to do with doing anything wrong, but is a threat to the people in power. This is partly why monopolies are illegal (along with price fixing, innovation stifling, etc).

There are times when someone insults a particular group due to issues they have had with that group, even if it is reaction to the lack of privacy, copyright theft, cyber crimes or civil rights violations that are occurring. There is also a great deal of slanderous information going around that exaggerates or falsifies the offense.

It would be prudent to take a step back and ask yourself if there is any actual evidence of an offense or is the response an overreaction. Are you helping or playing into their divisive manipulations?
