It sounds harmless. Something your grandma might offer you when you come to visit. But this is not your typical cookie, its an internet cookie.
They started as a way to verify credentials, but have morphed into an insidious and harmful invasion of privacy.
I recently viewed a bunch of my bookmarked pages to see who was leaving them and what they were doing and was shocked at the sheer number that are deposited on your computer. Most of the news media sites leave 40-80 cookies on your computer. I am told they represent 3rd party vendors that track your internet browsing habits but I have noticed that everything I do on my computer (even updating word documents) gets turned into an Ad or a post on your social media feed.
Many of these cookies are placed on your computer before you even accept them. I am still not sure what they are doing, but I have read articles that most cyber attacks involve malicious cookies, so I blocked them with my browser, but many sites will not work without them. I can see adding essential login cookies, but the marketing ones should clearly specify what they are taking and be optional or banned (or don’t visit the website anymore).
Your computer and personal files are not for public consumption. They are part of your private property and the thought of strangers invading your home or computer is revolting.
This is just another abusive practice by Government, Big Tech and the Media in a long string of abuses and usurpations that must end. Other abusive practices includes;
- AI that facilitates cyber crimes
- 5G antennas with beamforming
- Mass surveillance
- Wireless Mind Reading
- Deep Fakes
