The Federal government seems totally out of touch with the general public. The Trump administration has been making the usual case that unregulated AI is needed for jobs, growth and AI leadership, but the problem with AI at the moment is that it is mostly unlawful and like anything unlawful, it eventually results in lawsuits, bankruptcy or prison. To allow companies to develop unlawful AI is an exercise in stupidity by greedy, corrupt, short-sighted people. Invasion of privacy, IP theft, fraud, and cybercimes are all illegal, but its a part of standard AI. High energy consumption, wasteful spending, mental health issues, suicides, weaponization, and bias are added negatives. We don’t need AI regulation because its a nice to have, we need regulation to prevent societal and economic disaster.
Interestingly enough, many of the same Government reps that complained about privacy, mental health, spending, etc when they were in the minority, do not care about it now that they are in the majority (and vice versa). This also applies to FISA regarding the warrantless search of US citizens, mind reading and the collection of private data. Our Congressional reps must be held accountable in November if meaningful AI regulation does not pass and FISA is not modified.
Do not believe the spin that unregulated AI is needed for AI supremacy, economic prosperity or national security. It is actually the contrary.
The following AI rules should be adopted;
- AI cannot intrude into weapons, devices, networks, people, etc without permission from the owner
- AI cannot be used to target individuals with weapons or radiation from cell towers or satellites
- AI cannot reproduce someones likeness without permission (deep fakes)
- AI generated material must be properly labeled as AI
- AI cannot take or use Intellectual property without permission
- AI cannot allow minors access to under-aged material
- AI cannot censor people or show unreasonable bias
- AI cannot be used to cause mental health issues
- AI cannot be used for Mind Reading without permission from the owner
- AI servers must use renewable sources of energy
